Novak's HD cross-flow radiator for 1972 to 1986 Jeep CJ's is made to be the most innovative on the Jeep aftermarket. Jeep engine swappers have the challenge of keeping more powerful engines cool within the confines of one of the smallest grill spaces in the automotive industry.
These radiators are fabricated in-house at Novak since 2012, where we have relentlessly pursued radiators which have:
- Maximum heat exchange with two 1-1/4" wide tubes in alloy aluminum
- Durability
- Unmatched features; each radiator assembly includes:
- Floating cradle assembly, allowing the radiator to float in silicone pads within the provided mounting bracket
- Industry standard filler neck and radiator cap, for easy future replacement
- Standard drain fitting, accessible with a conventional 5/16" socket Allen wrench
- Lower cotter pins design for easier radiator release when engine bay service may require it
- Sacrificial anode (however, you should still ground your radiator to prevent corrosion!)
- Simple, barbed overflow fitting
- Bungs for temperature senders and steam ports
- Ideal fin density with louvers
- Furnace brazed headers and TIG welded final assembly
- Every radiator pressure tested, heat imaged and empirically scored for maxium heat exchange
Our radiators do not feature integrated transmission coolers, as we choose to focus the unit's entire cooling power on the engine. More on this, below.
Fan/shroud assemblies ordered with the radiator come pre-assembled for a "drop-in" package saving substantial time on your part.
For Generation I-II Chevrolet Engines

The classic Small Block Chevy version of our radiator features the 1-1/2" diameter top inlet on the driver's side and the lower 1-5/8" outlet on the passenger's side.

Transmission Cooling Options
Because modern engines run a bit hotter than earlier engines and automatic transmissions prefer to be kept at cooler temperatures, we at Novak choose to offer radiators without an integrated automatic transmission cooler option. These coolers are more effective run as separate units. This method is confirmed by trends in the OEM automotive industry. See Related Products, below, for our recommended transmission cooler for most Jeeps.
Note that the bungs and brass plugs provided in the Novak radiator tanks are for temperature sensors and steam vents, not for transmission cooler lines.
Cradle Bracket
The cradle bracket allows some float with the radiator to keep the stresses and strains down.
Unlike other radiator systems on the market the KryoFlow system is designed to meet the needs of a Jeep in an off-road environment. Typical Jeep use differs from a race or street car, which don't see the strains, flex and jarring typical of off-road use. Instead of using brackets welded to the tanks, our cradle grips and cushions the radiator with a compressible, heat-resilient silicone padding that allows the radiator to "float" eliminating fatigued radiator joints. Featuring a total of six isolators; two on the bottom hold pins positively locating the radiator while the tanks are held by two on either side. The bracket holds the radiator securely yet absorbs the twists and bumps of the trail isolating potential strains.
Fan Options
The radiator may be compatible with many electric and conventional mechanical fans. We recommend our FX Series Electric Fan which combines a high-powered fan and integrated shroud into one effective package, available in Related Products, below.
If you order your fan at the time of your radiator order, we will join them together for you and package them for combined shipment.
Applications & Compatibility
We use standard fittings and caps on our radiators, so the installer can configure and service their system as they wish.
These assemblies are designed to fit the 1972-1986 CJ models with engine conversions appropriate to the model selected. The dimensions of the radiator are 24.25"W x 18.5"H x 7.5" D. Because of the extra radiator thickness these will not work with the stock 232 or 258 engine due to length constraints of the inline 6 cylinder configuration.

Installation Requirements
Typical mechanics hand tools are required along with the appropriate hoses, clamps and coolant required with a normal radiator swap. After installing this upgrade radiator, we recommend that the installer should verify fan-to-radiator clearance and engine mount integrity before operating the Jeep.
Radiator Warranty Policy
Our radiators come with a 1-year / 100% warranty for defects in materials or workmanship, which is prorated and Novak will cover the cost as follows:
- 1 year, 100%
- 2 years, 75%
- 3 years, 50%
- 4 years, 25%
The above does not include incoming shipping of your radiator to Novak.
Coverage can be denied if it is determined that:
- Abuse has occured; no radiator can withstand shoddy installation or debris striking the radiator
- Electrolysis has occurred due to failure to ground the radiator to the frame
- Overpressured. We do not recommend exceeding 16psi on the cap
